Compassion-based resilience training

Build Resilience of Mind, Heart, and Body

9-week program to calm and settle the mind and body, work with difficult thoughts and emotions, and improve your relationship with yourself and others.

Why CBRT?

We are living in challenging times —24/7 work schedules, nonstop exposure to toxic media, and pick your  favorite crisis: climate, political polarization, racial, gender, and income inequality. How do we face these challenges without depleting ourselves and adding more misery? Is there another way to be in the world?

We can't control what life gives us but we do have a choice in how we respond and this makes all the difference. Reacting with stress shuts down parts of our brain needed for creative thought, closes us off to others, and has terrible long term health consequences. CBRT explains the science behind the stress response and offers practices to retrain the mind, heart, and body to react with more clarity, compassion, and resilience.

Benefits

  • Develop a more present, balanced, open and discerning mind through mindfulness practices.
  • Discover self-care and acceptance, unlearn social biases, and deepen positive emotional connection with others through compassion meditation.
  • Learn how to calm the nervous system and build physical resilience through somatic practices.
  • Understand the scientific foundations of the stress response and trauma and how mindfulness, compassion, and somatic practices reshape the mind and body.
  • Shape a life of greater contentment, joy, social engagement and purpose through cultivating mindfulness and compassion over time.

About CBRT?

Compassion-Based Resilience Training (CBRT) was developed in 1998 by Harvard-trained Psychiatrist Joe Loizzo, MD, PhD, Founder and Academic Director of the Nalanda Institute for Contemplative Science and it has been offered continuously since then at New York Hospital, and the University Hospitals of Columbia and Cornell. The program integrates timeless techniques of contemplative self-regulation from India and Tibet —  mindfulness, compassion meditation, imagery and breath work — with contemporary breakthroughs in neuroscience, positive psychology, and optimal health.
